As food banks face record shortages nationwide, Senator Brown wants to convince Washington to lend a hand. The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) will provide $40 million in assistance and help organizations that feed the hungry, until the permanent Farm Bill is passed. | |
Thanks to the generous support of The Lincy Foundation and the Wal-Mart Foundation the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank was awarded a 22’ Refrigerated Box Truck. This vehicle can hold up to 10 pallets of product and transport shelf stable and temperature sensitive product. The vehicle will be utilized to enhance our Store Donation Program. The Store Donation Program is a partnership between the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank and local retails that allows the Food Bank to secure much needed food items such as breads, fresh produce, dairy items and meats. This product is then distributed out to more than 300 member agencies in Northwestern Ohio. Thank you to the Lincy Foundation and the Wal-Mart Foundation for their support in the fight against hunger!!!! |

The Chrysler Foundation Awards Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank $6000.00 Grant
In December 2008 the Chrysler Foundation awarded the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank with $6000.00 to further enhance our Store Donation Program. The Store Donation Program is a partnership between the Food Bank and local retails that secures donations on fresh produce, breads, dairy and meat items. This program has been vital in increasing much needed highly nutritious foods to those in need in our service area. |

Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank Network The Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank was recently named Community Action Award recipient by the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists. Since our founding in 1984, we have distributed over 63 million pounds of food and grocery products to those in need.
The Food Bank currently serves more than 300 non-profit agencies in eight counties throughout Northwest Ohio including Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Lucas, Ottawa, Sandusky, Wood and Williams. In effect, the Food Bank is a cooperative effort to solicit, transport, sort, repack and distribute large amounts of food and other grocery products. The food solicits donations from national, regional, and local; growers, manufacturers, packers, wholesalers, and retailers. Then distributes these products to a network of non-profit member agencies in Northwest Ohio, who distribute the food to those in need in their communities. First Call for Help refers individuals residing in the following counties served by the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank. Referrals are then given to local food pantries who distribute directly to their local community. We strive to maximize community resources by effectively obtaining and distributing food through a food collection and distribution system. program has been established at the James C. Caldwell Community Center. The Back Pack program is a sub-program of Kids Café®.
