We are now making it even easier for families to receive access to nutritional food with our new program- the Harvest Market! This grocery store on wheels brings fresh fruits and vegetables, lean protein, dairy, and other essentials to communities that would otherwise lack access to healthy foods.
We have made it our priority to provide our clients access to foods that help promote a healthy diet and lifestyle. The healthier food options available at the Harvest Market will help improve health outcomes and decrease the incidence of chronic nutrition-based diseases for food-insecure people, with an emphasis on reaching those communities least served in a food desert. A food desert is a district that receives little or no access to large grocery stores that offer fresh and affordable foods needed to maintain a healthy diet.
The Harvest Market launched back in August 2016 with a roll out to two distribution sites in Henry County. Starting in October 2016, we will add an additional site in Williams County. This program will soon expand to reach all counties in our service area!
At this time, items available for purchase vary from week to week, and currently, select produce is available at no cost. Items are available for purchase using SNAP benefits, or using credit or debit cards. Shoppers are recommended to bring their own bags and boxes, if possible.
The Harvest Market has a friendly team of staff and volunteers dedicated to assist those shopping at the market. For questions or further information about the Harvest Market, please contact Linda Toney at 419-242-5000 x 215 or firstname.lastname@example.org
