Senior Grocery Program
Seniors are espcially vulnerable to the negative affects of hunger. Many suffer from medical conditions, poor health and other disablities that leave them unable to earn enough money to stay afloat. According to a recent Feeding America study, over 24% of the Ohioans being served are Seniors over the age of 65. This number is continuing to rise each year, as witnessed by many of our member agencies. Nearly 8% of Americans 60 and older were “food insecure” in 2017, according to a recent study released by the anti-hunger group Feeding America. That’s 5.5 million seniors who don’t have consistent access to enough food for a healthy life.
Bobb Pacholski runs Our Lady of Lourdes Soup Kitchen and has noted a 30% increase in the number of people seeking food in the last two years alone. On a national level, 2.9 million clients served by Feeding America are Seniors.
Fill Up For Fall
In partnership with the Area Office on Aging of Northwestern Ohio, Inc., we are working to combat senior hunger and improve the health of those age 60 and over with limited incomes by supplementing their diets with healthy and nutritious foods. Food Bags To Go are packaged at the Food Bank and delivered to participating older adults through the AOoA dining site meal program.
